The Discovery Harbour Marina operates in the unceeded territory of the Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Peoples.
Discovery Passage was at one time called “Yaculta Narrows,” an anglicization of its original name “Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Narrows”, named after the people who stewarded the area and were known to charge tolls for safe passage through the narrow corridor. This passage was controlled by the Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ, who continue to pilot marine craft through this territory. Today, Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ Passage (Discovery Passage) remains an important waterway to the Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ, as they reaffirm control of the area and work to restore its original names.
Our History
Discovery Harbour Marina is a full service marina offering boat moorage, power, water, washrooms, showers, laundry facilities and ice. This secure marina is located near Campbell River’s Discovery Harbour shopping Mall and offers easy access to a grocery store, restaurants, pubs and other shopping and amenities. The marina is close to boat repair facilities where radio and electronics repairs and marine equipment installation are also available.
The Land
We’d like to acknowledge and recognize that Discovery Harbour Marina and its businesses operate upon the traditional territory of the Wei Wai Kum First Nations, and are locally owned and operated by The Campbell River Indian Band since 1991.
